Unlike the coast, dominated by the <strong>White marl<\/strong>, here the ground lights up with crystalline reflections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>selenite<\/strong>, with its <strong>crystals <em>\u201clance-iron\u201d<\/em><\/strong> o <strong><em>\u201cdovetailed\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, It literally glows in the sun, especially after rain, when dust settles and leaves translucent, luminous surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking along the inter-pasture paths that lead up to the summit, it is easy to see glassy flakes embedded in the chalky rock: a small natural spectacle that tells the very ancient history of the Mediterranean and its stages of desiccation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trekking from Home Balata: A Route through Nature and Scenery<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Being<strong> located right on the slopes of the<\/strong>, <strong>House Balata<\/strong> is the ideal starting point for exploring <strong>Monte Mele<\/strong> on foot. From here, the view embraces:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>South-West<\/strong>, the <em>costs of Realmonte<\/em>, the <em>Scala dei Turchi<\/em> and the deep blue of the <em>Sicily Channel<\/em>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>in the North-East<\/strong>, l\u2019<em>agricultural hinterland<\/em> and the <em>chalky reliefs<\/em> accompanying the SS115.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the way, selenite outcrops become more and more evident, embedded in the side slopes and wind-eroded areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Highest Chalk Outcrop Point<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it is a less scenic place, but one of great geological fascination, here the massive gypsum occurs in impressive structures, with selenite crystals that can reach up to 10-15 cm. It is a true open-air museum for those who love nature in its most primeval form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Rich and Surprising the air around House Balata.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fauna<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Porcupines<\/strong>, They often leave their quills along the paths;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Foxes<\/strong>, visible in the twilight;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Waglerian Lizard<\/strong>, an endemic species that likes to warm itself on selenite stones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rural history and legends<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Amidst haystacks, chalky stone ruins and old mining essays, the landscape recounts the peasant life of yesteryear; and there is no shortage of legends: <strong>tales of treasures hidden by Saracen pirates<\/strong>, protected by spells and only visible on
